Large gatherings need a diversity of activities and attractions to keep everyone happy, but it is not easy to find the perfect place. So, if you have drawn the short straw to find a suitable venue to host a vacation for an extended family and friends, or for an important business or social gathering, including a venue suitable for summit meetings and world leaders, you can relax in the knowledge that Villa Clodi and the surrounding area has everything to offer the large party, and more.
Even with out leaving the grounds, plant lovers will be drawn to the beautifully maintained gardens. Others may seldom venture beyond the confines of the private swimming pool.
One of the main reasons for selecting Lucca as a destination, will undoubtedly be the gastronomic reputation of the area. Vistors to Villa Torraini will therefore appreciate the cellar that is lovingly stocked by Caretaker Giuseppe, with a fine collection of the very best wines and of course supplies of Lucchesia olive oil.
So, at the end of a day full of excitement, entertainment and exploration, what better way to come together and exchange stories than over an evening meal, taken in the separate 'tavern' building adjoining the upper gardens that has been furnished for special gatherings and banquets.
The Accommodation
Villa Clodi was built in the 18th century and it has been carefully restored to provide visitors with beautifully elegant and luxurious surrounds. The owners lived in the villa for many years, and this explains the furnishings and modern conveniences that are the hallmark of a comfortable and genuine family home. Maybe I should get out more often, but as one who is used to associating such splendor with the 'Do Not Touch' signs and surly custodians of national properties held in trust, it is almost unbelievable to imagine that such a Villa Clodi is available to rent as a holiday home!
Villa for rent: Sleeps 13 in 8 bedrooms, split between East and West wings
The main living area is on the upper ground floor.The beautifully furnished and upholstered Salone opens out onto a walled garden and has views over Lucca.
The formal dining room can seat 14 in comfort and provides for a memorable setting, with its frescoed ceilings, chandeliers and fine crystal and china dinner service.
Other reception rooms include the music room complete with piano, and a study with television.
The kitchen has an arch leading to a family breakfast area.
Kitchen appliances include 2 cook-tops, 2 dishwashers a microwave oven and a large fridge/freezer. Two washing machines are in the basement.
Also on the ground floor are two washrooms.
Sleeping accommodation
Sleeping accommodation is reached by climbing a grand staircase to the second floor. The West wing has 5 bedrooms for 8 people, and the East wing has 3 bedrooms for 5 people (8 rooms for 13 people in total).
West Wing accommodation
1 double bedroom with en-suite washroom, tub and shower. 1 twin-bedded room with en-suite washroom and shower. A further double bedroom and 2 single bedrooms that share a washroom with shower.
East Wing accommodation
1 double bedroom, 1 twin-bedded room and 1 single room, each with en-suite washroom and shower.

The Area
Lucca was founded in Roman times, and Piazza Anfiteatro was clearly built on the site of an old amphitheatre. The protective walls can still be seen, together with fine examples of Medieval and Renaissance architecture. The villas in the surrounding countryside, many of which are open to the public, owe their existance to the rich merchants who built them as their summer palaces.Lucca!
Villa Clodi is just north of Lucca near the village of San Pancrazio, in an area that is famous for its villas.
Some members of the party will no doubt head for the beautiful beaches of the Italian Riveria, and maybe explore the local coast and islands by boat.
The famous cities of nearby Pisa and Florence are also likely to be high on the list of "must-do's". Similarly, a boat trip on Torres del Lake Puccini, named after the famous composer who was born in Lucca.
But clearly, the primary attraction will be within sight. The historic town and jewel of Tuscany, Lucca, with its designer shopping, street cafes and restaurants, Roman walls, and Medieval and Renaissance architectural treasures, Lucca cannot fail to delight.
The remains of the old walls are extensive, as the aerial picture below shows, and make for interesting exploration.
The Italian Riviera at Viareggio is just 30 minutes away, with its well kept sandy beach, good facilities and beach restaurants, as is the artist town of Piertrsanta. The gems on the Ligurian coast of Portovenere, Cinque Terre and Portofino are about one hour's drive.
Golf is 30 minutes away, at Forte dei Marmi.
Airports
Villa Clodi has good access to the autostrada and the drive from Lucca to Florence takes about 1 hour.The drive to Pisa takes around 30 minutes.
Price
Prices range from 4,300 Euro per week to 5,300 Euro per week.The price includes a welcome dinner with wine. The services of a cook are available for an additional charge per meal.
Also included are the services of a maid (3 hours per day, 6 days per week, with additional service being available at the rate of 10 Euro per hour), gas, electricity, linen and garden maintenance.
Tepehone is payable by meter and central heating is charged at 230 Euro per week.
